Students are continuing to read My Brother Sam is Dead. They are discussing story elements such as character development, theme, author’s point of view and perspective, and foreshadowing while reading.
Social Studies
Students are learning about the Colonial Era, and how the collective efforts of the colonists’ desire for independence evolved into the American Revolution, and ultimately the first 13 colonies of the USA.
Science
This month students will be wrapping up our unit about Weather and moving on to Photosynthesis. This unit focuses on the process of plants creating their own food and the importance of sunlight. Students will be led through a series of 3 inquiry based activities; a photosynthesis mystery they will solve using clues, a photosynthesis experiment, and a design challenge; all using project-based approaches.
C4C
Children for Change is hosting their biggest event of the year - the 4th Annual C4C Challenge - on Sunday, April 28th. It will be an inspiring community event with people of all ages coming together for a common cause - supporting the voices of our youth and their commitment to helping those in need here and throughout the world. The event will start at Town Hall in San Anselmo with a hike up Bald Hill followed by “Games for Change” with “carnival-esque” games designed to share information and spur conversation about the topics C4C has been exploring. Food, music and fun activities will make this a wonderful and memorable day for families to enjoy together.
Children for Change meets weekly with our 3rd-5th graders to build interest and empathy around subjects such as Animal Welfare, Hunger, Homelessness and the Environment.
