Dear E-4 Parents,
I hope you've all survived the heat of the last few days! It was warm in our classroom and around Bel Aire, but I'm proud to say that all the students were troopers throughout.
This Week!
In order to guide some healthy, at-home discussion regarding school, please ask your child about his/her first science experiment on vascular plants (so great to see many of you accessing our photos of this on Class Story through Class Dojo! - Part 2 of this experiment will be taking place tomorrow), topic sentences, and growth mindset (see below for more details). Please continue to read below for important announcements!
Calling All Volunteers!
Math Centers - tomorrow from 1:00-2:35
Thank you to Suzanne Ryning and Jodi Krawitt for volunteering their time tomorrow. We're still looking for one more volunteer! Please email me if you are interested.
Library Volunteer
We still need a Library volunteer for during lunch or every other Friday from 1:30-2:00 starting October 7th. There is a library orientation tomorrow that will help provide more information. It's easy and so fun to see kids excited about reading!
From Angela King - Library Coordinator
Please join Carin Rhodes for a volunteer coffee and library orientation on Thursday, September 29th at 8:30 in the library. Carin will discuss how the library supports our student body this year and give a brief training on shelving books and other support options she might need, including checking books in and out of the library on the computer. This meeting should take somewhat less than an hour.
Many students use the library during lunch recess as a place for quiet reading or to find books. Parent support for this time will be Mon - Thurs, 12:00 - 12:40. There will be a sign up sheet at the coffee for your convenience to pick your day(s) to help. Alternately, you can support the library by coming with your classroom, every other week. Those sign ups should be through your classroom.
If you have any questions, please contact Carin or me.
Thanks for volunteering!

Outdoor Ed Cabin Leaders
If you are available to join us January 17-20th please let me know. As a reminder, a cabin leader will not be placed in a group with his/her son or daughter.
Growth Mindset Videos
Class Dojo released a fantastic five-part video series on growth mindset. Our class has watched the first two chapters this week and had wonderful discussions surrounding them. I will continue adding them to our website ---> Students ----> Class Dojo Growth Mindset Videos, as we view more. I highly encourage you to watch these at home with your child as well! Below are some helpful parent questions that you could follow up with afterward.
Chapter 1:
Parent Questions:
1. Sometimes when we are working on a challenging task, we may think, "just try harder." Is there a way to change this phrase?
2. What are some strategies we can use when facing a big challenge, so that we don't burn out?
3. Brainstorm phrases we can use to keep us going when facing a challenge (e.g., "Nice effort trying to solving that math problem!").
Chapter 2:
Parent Questions:
1. When I make a mistake I feel _____ because _____. How does it feel when you make a mistake?
2. What do you do about those feelings so that you don't get discouraged?
3. How can we support one another when facing challenges that result in many trials?
